‘Those who can win will even get 4 tickets’: MP Randhawa dares Punjab Congress chief

The Congress party in Punjab's unit is experiencing internal turmoil once again, as Gurdaspur MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa launched a heated criticism against state president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring during a conference in Ludhiana. Warring had previously stated that only one family would receive a ticket for the 2027 Assembly elections.

However, Randhawa firmly declared that those with the ability to win the elections would be given four tickets each, emphasizing that the Congress would use this strategy to secure a victory.

The Congress party in Punjab is divided into two factions, led by Warring and Charanjit Singh Channi, former Chief Minister of Punjab. The party's decision to retain Warring as the state president for the upcoming polls has led to a confrontation between the two groups. Channi's supporters want him to be the face of the party for the elections.

Warring had recently made a statement, claiming that several high-ranking party members were unhappy with his leadership and threatened to contest elections from various regions if he continued as the party leader. However, he clarified that throughout his tenure, only family members would receive one ticket each, not two. He also mentioned that Rahul Gandhi, the party's national president, would allocate tickets, but as the state president, he had the authority to recommend them.

Randhawa took to the stage to defend the Congress party's honor, comparing the current situation to pre-Independence India when the Pagdi Sambhaal Jatta movement was launched to protect turbans. He vowed that the Congress party's dignity would not be compromised, and nobody would be allowed to dislodge it. Randhawa's grandfather, Santokh Singh Randhawa, had been the state party president twice.
