Tension rises in Homa Bay as roads blocked ahead of Linda Mwananchi rally

NAIROBI, Kenya - Tension mounted in Homa Bay on Sunday as authorities blocked roads leading to and from the town ahead of a scheduled Linda Mwananchi political rally. Amateur videos on social media showed major roads barricaded with large stones placed overnight, blocking access for motorists. The disruption occurred hours before the rally, which was set to take place amid rising political tensions in the area following warnings from leaders of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) that they would prevent the gathering.

These roadblocks raised concerns over the safety and security of political leaders and supporters attending the meeting. Despite assurances from the government that adequate security would be provided, Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo stressed that Kenyans have a constitutional right to assemble and hold political meetings, urging political actors to uphold peace and order.

Linda Mwananchi member and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna acknowledged the roadblocks, indicating the group's determination to proceed with their program. The situation has added to an already tense political climate in Homa Bay, with attention now centered on the rally's success and the response from security forces.
