On December 29, a memorial cloth hung outside the second floor of a building at Yunam-gu's international airport in South Korea attracted strong reaction from the Yunam-gu's assembly's widow's association. The association released a press release on December 15, criticizing the cloth for incorrectly naming the president as "Jeonyeong" instead of "Jeoyeong." They argued that the cloth, which purportedly expressed gratitude to the president, instead displayed the assembly's negligence and irresponsibility.

The widow's association stated that the assembly had remained silent for a year and seven months since the tragedy, failing to take action to address the issue of safety and the responsibility of those involved. They demanded that the president address the widow's association first, before issuing any statements of gratitude.

Earlier in December, the Yunam-gu's assembly published a statement urging the government to ensure the safe reopening and swift resumption of Yunam-gu's airport. On December 5, the South Jeolla provincial assembly's road and transportation committee issued a statement urging the government to promote the safety of Yunam-gu's airport and facilitate its early reopening.

President Jeonyeong had previously instructed on December 4 for the airport's reopening preparations to be made, but stressed that this could not be done unilaterally; consultation with the affected families and their opinions were essential.
