Saudi School Books Now Present Conquest of Khyber As Peace Deal

Saudi Arabia's Grade 11 Islamic Studies textbook now presents the Conquest of Khyber as an example of peace between Muslims and Jews, according to a review of the kingdom's education curriculum. The textbook, titled 'Islamic Studies' and Hadith (2) for Grade 11 under the Pathways System for 2025-26, includes a lesson called "Islam [brings] the Message of Peace" that lists several historical agreements as examples of building partnerships among followers of different religions and cultures.

These agreements, such as the Contract of Medina, Agreement of Hudaybiyyah, and the Peace of Najran, are highlighted as promoting common interests and coexistence. Despite the historical context of the Muslims' victorious siege against the Khyber fortress, the textbook frames the Khyber agreement as a positive example of peaceful relations.

Additionally, a Grade 10 Critical Thinking textbook teaches that dialogue and coexistence are essential human needs, encouraging students to learn about various cultures to foster mutual understanding. Another Grade 11 Islamic Studies lesson mentions a hadith emphasizing the importance of peaceful relations between different groups for social co-existence.
