Saudi Arabia updates Hajj accommodation rules ahead of 2027 pilgrimage season

Dubai: Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Tourism has introduced revised regulations and classifying standards for accommodations catering to pilgrims during the Hajj season, ahead of the 2027 pilgrimage. The Ministry also released a schedule outlining violations for facilities designated for pilgrim lodging in the holy cities of Mecca and Medina.

According to the Ministry's spokesperson, Nasr Alansari, these modifications aim to enhance the regulatory and operational framework, bolster the preparedness of hospitality establishments, and ensure they adhere to the necessary standards prior to accommodating pilgrims. The updated requirements encompass operational preparedness, safety and maintenance benchmarks, uninterrupted provision of essential services, and adherence to operating criteria designed to guarantee pilgrims a secure and well-organized stay.

Hajj season accommodation facilities will now be categorized into two tiers - economy and first class - each with distinct requirements. These regulations encompass common areas, guest rooms, reception zones, cleanliness, upkeep, and guest services. They also outline several inspection and oversight stages, including evaluations before licensing, prior to facility commencement, and throughout the operational period.

The Ministry stated that the multi-stage inspection system was intended to fortify compliance and elevate the quality of services provided to pilgrim accommodations. The Ministry described the preservation of pilgrims as a collective national duty rooted in a tradition spanning centuries, asserting that the revised standards would facilitate the provision of a safe and enriching hospitality experience while underscoring Saudi Arabia's commitment to serving pilgrims.

The Ministry urged operators seeking licenses for the 2027 Hajj season to commence meeting the requirements early and finalize all requisite maintenance and preparation tasks before submitting their applications.
