SAD chief Sukhbir Badal’s wife seeks NIA probe into Aug 13 attack, writes to Amit Shah

Harsimrat Kaur Badal, wife of SAD MP and SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal, has requested the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to investigate an attack on her husband on August 13, 2026. In her letter to Home Minister Amit Shah, Harsimrat stated that Sukhbir suffered an injury to his right arm during the assault, which could have been fatal had an alert security officer not intervened, risking his own life to stop the attacker.

Harsimrat emphasized that the attack was not isolated, pointing to a similar assassination attempt on Sukhbir's life on December 4, 2024, at the Harmandir Sahib in Amritsar, where he was performing seva. Both attacks share several disturbing parallels, leading Harsimrat to question if they are connected. She also criticized the Punjab government and police for their handling of the first attack, stating that the second incident has reignited scrutiny on the matter.

Sukhbir Singh Badal was targeted at a gurdwara in Nanded, Maharashtra, on August 13, 2026, by a 62-year-old assailant named Jaspal Singh, who had worked at the gurdwara for about two years as a sevadar.
