Russian Drone Strike on Car in Sumy Kills Man, Injures Woman

A Russian drone strike on a civilian vehicle in Sumy, Ukraine, on August 15, resulted in the death of a 59-year-old man and the injury of his wife. Sumy Regional Military Administration Head Oleh Hryhorov reported the incident on Telegram, describing the drone's act of targeting the car, which subsequently caught fire.

Throughout the evening and night, Russian forces conducted multiple drone attacks on Sumy, but Ukrainian air defenses managed to intercept several of the targets. Hryhorov emphasized that although the interception was successful, the intensity of the attacks remained high.

The drone strike on Sumy took place alongside a wave of Russian strikes early Sunday morning, August 16, in Kryvyi Rih, Dnipropetrovsk region. This attack, involving both ballistic missiles and drones, claimed one life and injured 13 others. Among the injured, a 48-year-old man was hospitalized in severe condition, while 10 others suffered moderate injuries. The strikes caused damage to two industrial enterprises and ignited fires.

In the Nikopol district, Russian forces attacked the area, injuring a 55-year-old man and damaging local infrastructure and residential buildings. Concurrently, Russian forces launched ballistic missiles at Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine. The State Emergency Service reported that these strikes led to fires and structural damage in the Obolonskyi and Holosiivskyi districts.

A significant fire broke out at a local market in the Obolonskyi district, while falling debris ignited several parked vehicles in the Holosiivskyi district.
