Osun Election: PDP warns Tinubu after Adeleke’s victory

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has cautioned President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress, APC, following the victory of Governor Ademola Adeleke in the Osun governorship election. The party asserts that Adeleke's triumph serves as a sign for the 2027 general election, accusing the APC of employing what it terms its "rigging machinery" to secure the state's victory.

The PDP declared this stance in a statement released on Sunday, August 16, 2026, and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong. According to the statement, the Independent National Electoral Commission's announcement of Governor Adeleke's decisive win is a clear indication of the electorate's expectations for the 2027 elections.

The PDP alleged that opposition politicians endured intimidation, physical assaults and arrests during the election period. They also accused security forces of failing to remain impartial and criticized the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for freezing the state government's accounts and causing delays in the announcement of results by INEC, which they believe raises questions about the election's integrity.

The PDP implores Nigerians to remain vigilant and safeguard their votes ahead of the 2027 election. The party firmly states, "Election results must be reflective of the wishes of the people freely expressed through the ballot and not the enforcement of the whims and caprices of a privileged minority of oppressors."
