Osun Election: Don’t break the law in your celebrations – Police warn supporters

The Osun State Police Command has cautioned political party supporters to celebrate the results of the 2026 governorship election in a lawful and orderly manner. Commissioner of Police, Election, CP Samuel Erale Etaifo, made the appeal in a statement, urging citizens to maintain peace during post-election festivities. The police have congratulated the people of Osun State on the successful conclusion of the election, but emphasized the need for responsible and lawful celebrations.

Etaifo urged supporters to avoid actions that could lead to injuries, property damage, traffic obstruction, or harassment of others. The police reminded citizens that they have the legal right to celebrate but must do so without endangering public safety, security, or property. Unauthorized actions such as reckless driving, use of firearms or fireworks, brandishing dangerous weapons, destruction of property, and violent street processions will not be tolerated.

The police have warned that anyone engaging in such activities during the post-election period will be arrested and held accountable under the law. The statement also called on parents, guardians, political, religious, community, and other leaders to discourage their followers from engaging in unlawful behavior during celebrations.

The police have deployed personnel strategically across Osun State to ensure law and order during the post-election period, assuring residents of their commitment to safety. The command reiterated that no political victory should come at the cost of lives or property destruction.
