‘ONGC can create a reliable gas supply eco system in Tamil Nadu’

On Saturday, K.V. Ilango, Asset Manager of ONGC Cauvery Asset, highlighted the potential role that Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) could play in establishing a reliable gas supply ecosystem in Tamil Nadu. Ilango emphasized that energy security is crucial for national development and that ONGC, through its domestic exploration and production, can contribute significantly to reliable energy availability.

According to ONGC, there is a significant opportunity for Tamil Nadu to expand its City Gas Distribution (CGD) policy, aiming to bring PNG and CNG benefits to all 38 districts of the state. ONGC's established gas production capabilities, combined with the state's robust gas transmission infrastructure, including the Ennore–Thiruvallur–Bengaluru–Puducherry–Nagapattinam–Madurai–Tuticorin (ETBPL) pipeline, position the company to play a key role in creating a dependable domestic gas supply for households, industries, fertilizer plants, power generation and transportation.

Ilango stressed that utilizing domestic gas can decrease reliance on imported LNG, enhance energy affordability and resilience, and support Tamil Nadu's shift toward a more efficient and cleaner gas-based economy. The company is committed to collaborating closely with the state government, regulatory authorities, industries, and local communities to unlock the region's potential, prioritizing safety, environmental stewardship, and sustainable development.

By responsibly developing domestic resources and efficiently utilizing existing infrastructure, ONGC aims to bolster Tamil Nadu's energy security and contribute to the national goals of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat.
