NTA to reconduct UGC-NET for English, Sociology, Commerce papers as audit finds factual, translation errors

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced that it will re-conduct the UGC-NET examination for three subjects - English, Commerce, and Sociology - due to errors detected in the question papers. On Sunday morning, NTA released provisional answer keys for the June 2026 UGC-NET, Joint-CSIR-NET, and ICAR AIEEA (PG) exams. Later in the evening, NTA announced that a committee found multiple mistakes in the question papers, including misspelled names of renowned scholars, incorrect book titles, erroneous question wording, grammatical and punctuation errors, and non-standard terms for established concepts.

Additionally, a significant number of questions were repeated from previous examinations. The committee recommended conducting the re-tests to ensure a fair and error-free examination. The re-conducted exams will be held in September, and there will be no additional examination fee for candidates who appeared for the affected subjects.

The re-examination schedule includes English on September 9 from 9 AM to 12 noon, Commerce on the same day from 3 PM to 6 PM, and Sociology on September 10 from 9 AM to 12 noon. NTA will not delay the results for the remaining 84 subjects, and the number of candidates qualifying for Assistant Professor eligibility will be based on the higher of 6% of the candidates who appeared in the June examination or the re-examination.
