NPS warns against political incitement

The National Police Service (NPS) has issued a warning to politicians, organizers, and individuals against incitement and provocation that could lead to breaches of peace and public order. Offenders will be held accountable under the law. The warning came after the arrest of 15 suspects who were found with crude weapons along the Kisumu–Kericho Road on Saturday.

Preliminary investigations suggest the suspects were hired criminals planning to disrupt political activities in the area. The NPS stated that they intercepted and arrested the suspects on August 15, 2026, as part of their mandate to maintain law and order, following intelligence-led operations. They cautioned anyone found facilitating violence, disorder, or unlawful activity, emphasizing that they will be dealt with firmly and in accordance with the law.

Police officers attending political events have been instructed to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, impartiality, and restraint, ensuring the right to peaceful assembly while maintaining public order and safety. The public is urged to report any criminal or suspicious activity to the nearest police station or through designated channels, reaffirming the NPS's non-partisan approach guided by the Constitution, the National Police Service Act, and the rule of law.
