North Korea's Kim tells Putin he is 'proud' of strong ties: state media

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un expressed pride in the strong ties between his country and Russia in a letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to state media. The correspondence comes after North Korea provided military support for Russia's war against Ukraine in 2022. Kim stated that he is always proud to expect an excellent future for the DPRK-Russia relations, which have contributed to the history of common struggle.

Kim also expressed a firm belief that Russia would thrive and defend its territorial integrity under Putin's wise leadership. In response, Putin acknowledged that relations between the two countries had reached an unprecedented level of comprehensive strategic partnership, noting their active cooperation across various sectors to ensure regional security and stability.

The exchange of letters follows Ukraine's accusations of Moscow launching North Korean ballistic missiles that killed nine people and wounded dozens. Ukraine has also claimed up to 50,000 North Korean troops may deploy to Russia, though no evidence has been provided. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky requested air defense systems from Seoul, a request that has not been fulfilled.
