Natembeya says Raila’s spirit cannot rest as Linda Mwananchi faces tension in Homa Bay

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya expressed his frustration on Sunday, August 16, 2026, regarding Homa Bay leaders obstructing opposition figures from engaging with residents during the Linda Mwananchi mobilisation tour. Natembeya's remarks in Nyandiwa, Suba South Constituency, highlighted how these actions contradicted the political legacy of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, stating, "The spirit of Raila cannot rest when the leaders of Homa Bay are the people blocking us not to speak to the people."

Natembeya personally recalled his support for Raila Odinga during his 2022 presidential campaign in Trans Nzoia, emphasizing, "The spirit of Raila cannot rest. Politics is about competition of ideas." He also dismissed claims that Raila had directed his supporters to support President William Ruto posthumously, asserting, "Raila hakupigania Kenya Wajaluo wasupport Ruto akishakufa!"

Natembeya further urged residents not to return to the opposition under President Ruto's leadership, warning, "Wajaluo msikubali kurudi upinzani na Ruto, yeye ni fala sana." The governor's criticism extended to President Ruto's remarks about his political opponents, stating, "Ruto amekuwa mtu wa kutukana watu. Anasema sisi hatuna akili, ati sisi ni mafala.

Yeye si fala namna gani, kama ndiye anaweka majambazi barabarani kuzuia watu kuja kufanya mkutano? Kura ya Kasongo iko Nyanza. Kweli ama uwongo?"
