Naqvi comes to CDA chairman, Islamabad IG's defence as they draw flak over buggy video with 'colonial' undertone

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi defended two government officials, CDA Chairman Sohail Ashraf and Islamabad Inspector General of Police Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, after a viral Independence Day parade video sparked criticism for its "colonial" undertones. The officials were seen riding in a horse carriage, mimicking a presidential buggy, despite no applause being heard in the recording.

Naqvi explained that the officials had been delayed due to the president's meeting with the prime minister, and the crowd had been waiting since 5pm, prompting them to instruct the officers to start the parade. He maintained that the carriage was arranged for the chief guest but had to be used by the officials due to unavoidable circumstances, and that both officers had initially resisted but were persuaded for the public's convenience.

Despite Naqvi's clarification, the video continued to draw widespread criticism, with former federal minister Shireen Mazari, digital rights activist Usama Khilji, journalist Farzana Ali, Zarrar Khuhro, researcher Ammar Rashid, journalist Absar Alam, and political analyst Zaigham Khan all expressing their disapproval.
