Mitch McConnell update: Andy Beshear slams Kentucky senator's silence amid health concerns; 'I've heard nothing back'

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear expressed frustration on Sunday after receiving no response from Senator Mitch McConnell regarding his health. McConnell, who is 84 years old, had been recovering at home following a hospitalization lasting several weeks. Beshear had previously written to McConnell in July, urging him to provide an update on his health status.

While Beshear hopes McConnell is recovering well, he emphasized that McConnell has not responded despite his multiple requests. Beshear also criticized Senate Majority Leader John Thune for deferring to McConnell's staff for health updates and not making an effort to address Kentuckians directly. Some Republicans have called for McConnell to provide a health update, as the lack of communication has fueled speculation about his ability to continue serving in the Senate.

McConnell was hospitalized on June 14 after falling at his Washington, DC home. He later moved to a rehabilitation center, but claimed he was discharged and continuing recovery at home under doctor's advice. McConnell's office stated he hoped to return to the Senate when lawmakers reconvene on September 14.
