Minister warns against immoral behaviour, stresses mosques and surau must remain sacred spaces

BATU PAHAT, August 16 — The Minister of the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs), Senator Dr Zulkifli Hasan, has cautioned Muslims to maintain proper conduct and uphold good morals, particularly in sacred spaces such as mosques and surau. These places of worship must be respected and their sanctity preserved, as every action is observed by Allah SWT, who will judge all our deeds.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the Syariah Lawyers' Sports Programme (SUKPES) at Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), Zulkifli urged everyone to observe proper conduct, uphold good morals, and comply with the law.

The minister addressed questions concerning a case involving a former mosque caretaker and a married woman accused of attempting to engage in illicit sexual relations within a mosque mortuary in Melaka. He emphasized ongoing efforts to educate and guide people of all ages, from young individuals to senior citizens, on compliance with Islamic law and the significance of good character.

These initiatives encompass a variety of programs held in mosques and surau, as well as social media campaigns aimed at strengthening families.
