Minister warns against immoral behaviour, stresses mosques and surau must remain sacred spaces

BATU PAHAT, Aug 16 — The government's Religious Affairs Minister, Senator Dr Zulkifli Hasan, has cautioned Muslims to maintain proper conduct and uphold good morals, warning against immoral behaviour, particularly within sacred spaces such as mosques and surau. Dr Zulkifli emphasized that mosques and surau are revered places that must be respected and their sanctity preserved.

He reminded the public that their actions are observed by Allah SWT, and they cannot evade accountability, as Allah SWT will judge all their deeds and transgressions.

Dr Zulkifli addressed the media following the conclusion of the Syariah Lawyers’ Sports Programme (SUKPES) at Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM). Responding to inquiries about a case involving a former mosque caretaker and a married woman accused of attempting illicit sexual relations within a mosque mortuary in Melaka, he stressed the importance of observing proper conduct, maintaining good morals, and adhering to the law.

Furthermore, Dr Zulkifli highlighted ongoing initiatives aimed at educating and guiding individuals of all ages, from young people to senior citizens, regarding compliance with Islamic law and the significance of good character. These efforts encompass various programs conducted at mosques and surau, as well as social media campaigns designed to strengthen family bonds.
