Messi sees penalty saved as Nashville routs Inter Miami in MLS

Lionel Messi of Inter Miami failed to convert a penalty during an MLS match against Nashville on Saturday, resulting in a 4-1 loss for his team. The incident occurred in the first half, with Messi missing the spot-kick and receiving a yellow card in the 59th minute. Inter Miami's captain also assisted the team's lone goal in the match.

Messi hit both posts in second-half stoppage time. Nashville currently leads the MLS standings with 43 points, having won 13 of their 14 games with four draws. Inter Miami is in second place with 38 points. The match saw Nashville take the lead in the 17th minute through a header from Honduran defender Andy Najar. Just three minutes later, Messi had a penalty attempt denied by Nashville goalkeeper Brian Schwake.

Inter Miami equalized three minutes into the second half thanks to a shot from Venezuelan Telasco Segovia, who assisted Messi. In the 49th minute, midfielder Hany Mukhtar put Nashville ahead again. Nashville extended their lead three minutes later when England's Sam Surridge scored. Mukhtar added a second goal for Nashville in the 63rd minute, further securing the win for the hosts.
