Matthew McConaughey on his sweet return to the big screen

Matthew McConaughey chose The Rivals of Amziah King as his return to the big screen, a honey-themed thriller set in the American Southwest. The 56-year-old Oscar-winning actor explained that he was drawn to the film's joy, soul, humor, music, and mythology. McConaughey plays a local honey producer who balances his beekeeping duties with playing the banjo in a folk band.

He was able to relate to the characters, their love for each other, and their ability to care for one another, as well as their use of music and humor to survive. The film follows Amziah, a character who helps a young Native American woman, Kateri, played by Angelina LookingGlass, to integrate into the community and pass on his leadership role to her.

However, the world of honey is not as sweet as it appears. LookingGlass, the 22-year-old actress who played Kateri, was excited to play a strong Indigenous woman who relies on her intellect and resourcefulness. The film, which also stars Kurt Russell, opened in US theaters on Friday, delighting McConaughey who expressed gratitude for McConaughey's return to cinema after six and a half years.
