Loke apologises to DAP delegates for losing Chennah in Negeri Sembilan polls

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 16 — DAP Secretary-General Anthony Loke has expressed regret to party delegates for the party's loss in the Negeri Sembilan state election, specifically in the Chennah seat that had been held by Loke for three consecutive terms since 2013. He clarified that the decision to contest the seat was not driven by personal ambition, but to showcase DAP's ability to garner support from diverse ethnic backgrounds in a predominantly Malay region.

Loke acknowledged the party's failure to secure strong backing from Malay voters and the Orang Asli community, highlighting that this represents a significant hurdle for DAP as it seeks to broaden its political reach. During the party's national congress at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre, Loke addressed the issue of racial divides, stating that overcoming this divide is crucial for the party's progress.

Despite the recent electoral setbacks, Loke emphasized that the party's long history of electoral challenges and defeats should not deter it from moving forward. He urged delegates and activists to remain motivated, confident that persistence will ensure the party's continued relevance and acceptance among Malaysia's majority population.

The congress will see discussions on the party's stance and future trajectory within the Unity Government, as it faces increasing scrutiny over its reform efforts and electoral performance, including concerns about its continued participation in the administration under Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
