Kushner meets Hamas leaders in Egypt to push Trump’s Gaza plan

Hamas has formally endorsed the second phase of US President Donald Trump's plan for Gaza, urging the execution of all outlined commitments. This approval was communicated on Sunday evening following a meeting in Cairo led by Khalil Al-Hayya, the coordinator of the Peace Council and a representative of Hamas. The meeting, which took place under Egyptian sponsorship, brought together Hamas delegates, mediators, and guarantors of the Gaza ceasefire agreement.

During the discussions, Hamas expressed its agreement with the roadmap, which is guided by the interests of the Palestinian people and the pursuit of a permanent ceasefire. The group emphasized the necessity for a complete Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, immediate and ongoing humanitarian aid, the resumption of the administrative committee's operations, reconstruction efforts, and the fulfillment of all other agreed-upon obligations.

Hamas reiterated its commitment to the complete execution of the first phase of the ceasefire agreement, which was established in Sharm El-Sheikh. This phase includes the exchange of prisoners and remains, a cessation of military actions, and the completion of actions undertaken by Israel. However, it noted that Israel had not honored this phase; instead, it has escalated militarily, leading to a worsening of the humanitarian crisis and an explicit rejection of the roadmap.

Hamas called upon mediators and the Peace Council to fulfill their duties, compelling Israel to adhere to all obligations of the first phase, to cease violations and killings, to halt incursions, to approve the phase two roadmap of Trump’s plan, and to establish a timeline for its implementation.

Hamas also expressed gratitude for the role played by US President Donald Trump in achieving the Sharm El-Sheikh ceasefire agreement and the subsequent phase two roadmap. The movement voiced hope that ongoing efforts will alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people and foster security and stability in the region.
