Kalonzo unveils Coast team to take on Ruto allies in 2027

The opposition has unveiled a three-member political team to challenge President William Ruto's allies in the upcoming 2027 General Election. The team, led by Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, comprises Nyali MP Mohammed Ali, Wundanyi MP Danson Mwashako, and former Gender Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa. This move signals a significant shift in the political landscape of the Coast region, where the ruling Kenya Kwanza coalition has been seeking to consolidate its support by bringing together key politicians under their Kenya Kwanza banner.

Musyoka described the appointment of Jumwa as deputy leader as a step towards liberating the country, highlighting her political experience and influence. He emphasized that the three leaders would embark on an aggressive mobilization campaign across the entire Coast, from Lamu to Lunga Lunga, to persuade voters to support their opposition alliance.

Musyoka also claimed that the Wiper party was positioning itself to replace the ODM as the dominant opposition political force in the region. The political team's formation follows the Kenya Kwanza administration's efforts to consolidate its hold on the Coast, with opposition leaders accusing the government of abandoning former supporters.

The Wiper team members have faced pressure from both the opposition and potential government offers to join the administration, but have remained steadfast in their commitment to the opposition cause.
