Malaysian authorities have arrested a man suspected of smuggling drugs from Malaysia to several countries since 2024, according to Bukit Aman's narcotics investigation chief Hussein Omar Khan. The suspect, a Malaysian Airlines passenger, was found carrying about 25kg of drugs on board a Malaysia Airlines flight to Indonesia in July.

During questioning by Indonesian investigators, the suspect admitted to having transported drugs to multiple destinations multiple times since 2024, following his travel schedule. The investigation revealed no indications of criminal intent leading to any harm in Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). The suspect cooperated by providing information about several drug syndicates in Malaysia and other countries, including Indonesia, and agreed to assist in investigating known members of these syndicates, including their financial dealings related to drug sales.

Indonesian authorities are currently investigating the syndicate network and plan to share the information with relevant drug enforcement agencies in the countries involved. The suspect remains in Indonesian custody and will face legal proceedings in the country. Regarding extradition to Malaysia, the police declined to comment due to the cross-border nature of the case.

Details about the payments, destinations, and compensation received by the suspect since 2024 are still under investigation. The 39-year-old Malaysian national was detained at Terminal 3 of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten, on July 29 after arriving from Kuala Lumpur on flight MH727.
