Jubilee defends Uhuru and Matiang’i amid criticism from Ruto

The Jubilee Party has defended President Uhuru Kenyatta and presidential candidate Fred Matiang’i amid growing criticism from the Kenya Kwanza administration, as tensions rise within the opposition ahead of the 2027 General Election. In a statement on August 15, 2026, Jubilee Secretary-General Moitalel Ole Kenta accused the current government of promoting political intolerance through a coordinated campaign of attacks from senior officials and their supporters online.

The party criticized the targeting of Uhuru, who served as President from 2013 to 2022, while Kenyans faced challenges such as high living costs and unemployment. Jubilee maintained that Uhuru retained his constitutional rights to freedom of expression, association, and political participation, as guaranteed by the Constitution.

The party also rejected claims that Matiang’i or Jubilee were involved in unrest in Naivasha and Nakuru, blaming the incidents on systemic failures within the security and policing system. Jubilee emphasized its commitment to unity and coalition building within the opposition, warning its allies not to link the party or Matiang’i to incidents they deemed not their responsibility.
