India Day Parade: Zohran Mamdani attends as first Indian American mayor of New York

On August 15, Zohran Mamdani, New York City's first Indian-American mayor, attended the Queens India Day Parade in Floral Park, marking his first appearance in the event as the city's top official of Indian descent. The parade, which took place on India's 80th Independence Day, showcased various cultural programs, flag-hoisting ceremonies, and even a Guinness World Record attempt in New Jersey.

Mamdani described the experience as unforgettable, emphasizing the diverse Indian diaspora in the city that came together to celebrate. He highlighted how the event brought together people from different religious backgrounds, praising their contributions to New York City. Meanwhile, in New Jersey, over 1,300 US flags were arranged to form the number "250" at Veterans Memorial Park, setting a Guinness World Record for the "Largest Flagpole Number."

This event, organized by the Consulate General of India in New York and the Federation of Indian Associations NY-NJ-NE, celebrated the 250th anniversary of the United States alongside India's 80th Independence Day, showcasing the strong ties between the two nations and the significant role of the Indian-American community.
