Gubernatorial Inspection of New Airbus A220 Aircraft for Ibom Air

The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, is set to receive Ibom Air's latest Airbus A220 aircraft following its pre-inspection in Mirabel, Quebec, Canada. This marks an important milestone as part of the state government's ongoing support for the airline's expansion and improved operational capabilities.

The new aircraft is the third Airbus A220-300 to be delivered to Ibom Air this year. It is expected to commence operations ahead of the 2026 holiday season, enhancing the carrier's capacity for regional and international travel. Governor Eno expressed his satisfaction with the aircraft's quality and advanced technology, highlighting that the acquisition demonstrates his administration's commitment to fostering Ibom Air's long-term growth and competitiveness.

The investment in the new aircraft goes beyond fleet expansion, as it aims to improve passenger comfort, service delivery, and the airline's network. This enhanced connectivity will support the state's tourism development goals by making Akwa Ibom more accessible to visitors, thereby promoting trade, investment, and business opportunities. As a wholly-owned entity of the Akwa Ibom State Government, Ibom Air has established itself as one of Nigeria's leading airlines since its inception in 2019.

The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Information, Aníekan Umanah, stated that the airline's fleet development program focuses on acquiring new-generation Airbus A220 aircraft known for their advanced technology, passenger comfort, and operational efficiency. This fleet expansion will further strengthen air access to Akwa Ibom, connecting more people to the state's cultural heritage, attractions, and growing tourism economy.

Guillaume Chevasson, Head of A220 Programme and CEO of Airbus Canada, emphasized the exceptional operational flexibility, fuel efficiency, and passenger comfort offered by the A220-300. He praised the partnership between Airbus and Ibom Air, expressing the company's commitment to sustaining a mutually beneficial relationship and supporting the airline's continued growth and development.

Ibom Air's new Airbus A220-300 will join the existing fleet of two A220 aircraft, which are currently undergoing comprehensive checks and are expected to return to service by the end of September 2026. This expansion will strengthen the airline's operational capacity and provide greater flexibility for network growth. Ibom Air's CEO, Mr. George Uriesi, stated that the pre-delivery inspection marks a significant milestone in the airline's fleet expansion program, bringing it closer to receiving the aircraft.
