GOF personnel injured as suspected migrant smuggler reverses car into him

TUMPAT: A General Operations Force (GOF) soldier sustained injuries during a suspected migrant smuggling operation in Kampung Chat, Palekbang. The 29-year-old corporal was hit by a car driven by a driver suspected of smuggling migrants. He was taken to Tumpat Hospital where he received stitches to his head. The driver acted aggressively when confronted by the GOF team and attempted to flee by reversing his car.

The driver, a 34-year-old from Kampung Kenat Bunut Susu, had 15 prior criminal offenses, including drug trafficking and vehicle theft. Six Myanmar women, aged 21-31, were also detained as they were found to be illegal immigrants. They were allegedly paid RM6,000 each by a Myanmar agent through Facebook Messenger and paid the GOF RM70 each for transporting them to Kota Baru.

The driver was found to be carrying four suspected yaba pills and eight mobile phones. The Proton Preve he was driving was seized along with an estimated total value of RM42,000 worth of items. The driver tested positive for amphetamine. The entire incident is under investigation under various acts including the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act, Immigration Act, Penal Code, and Dangerous Drugs Act.
