Ghirls kick-off the season with victory over Glasgow City

Celtic FC Women launched their 2026/27 season with a 2-1 victory over city rivals Glasgow City at Petershill Park on Sunday. This marked their return to competitive action following a busy summer of new signings and intense pre-season training. Starting the match, Glasgow City dominated possession in the early stages, but Celtic managed to equalize just before halftime thanks to a header from Fi Morgan.

Celtic's first goal came in the 30th minute when Hannah Luke's corner deflected into the post and was then scored by Morgan. Throughout the match, Morgan proved to be a dominant force in the Glasgow City area, contributing to the Ghirls' comeback. The second half saw Celtic maintain their lead, with Izzy Fisher and Addie Handley coming close to scoring further goals.

Celtic's victory provides a strong start to their campaign, with their next fixture being a home match against Montrose next Sunday.
