DAP votes to remain in government [WATCH]

The DAP delegates have overwhelmingly voted to remain within the unity government, with 88% choosing to stay in the Cabinet for the remainder of the parliamentary term. The vote, announced by national congress chairman Chaa Kee Chin at Putrajaya, saw 1,857 votes in favor of remaining and 242 against leaving. Of the 2,230 delegates who attended, 2,106 ballot papers were issued and returned, resulting in 2,099 valid votes and seven spoiled ballots.

Secretary-general Anthony Loke emphasized that this result represents a clear mandate for the party leadership to pursue its reform agenda while serving in government. Loke, who is also Transport Minister, expressed gratitude to the delegates for their trust and appealed to the 12% who voted against remaining in government to accept the outcome, emphasizing the importance of respecting the democratic process.

The attendance figure, though just over half of the eligible delegates, was noted as typical for DAP national congresses. The decision to vote on the matter was made at the leadership level by the Central Executive Committee, aiming to democratize the party's decision-making process following recent electoral setbacks.
