Congress leader and law student son shot, hacked to death near residence in Bengal

Congress leader Anisur Rahman and his son Abu Sufian, a 24-year-old law student, were tragically shot and then hacked to death near their residence in Bengal’s Nadia district. The brutal attack occurred just 200 meters away from their home as the duo was traveling in a car on Saturday evening. Rahman, who served as a member of the Pradesh Congress Committee and General Secretary of the Nadia District Congress Committee, had been a dedicated public servant.

Family members revealed that Abu Sufian had planned to pursue further studies in London. Upon discovering the bodies, they were promptly transported to Nakashipara hospital for a post-mortem examination.

The assailants managed to damage the car severely, leaving bullet marks on the bonnet, windscreen, and windows. In the aftermath of the attack, police swiftly arrested Fatema Bibi, the head of Harnagar Gram Panchayat, and another Trinamool Congress worker. The arrests were made following family members' allegations linking Bibi to the murders. Police are also examining CCTV footage from the area to identify the perpetrators.

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari addressed the nation, stating that Jabbar Shiekh, a former prisoner, was implicated in the murders. Additionally, Shiekh's wife, who is a Trinamool Congress pradhan, has been apprehended. Meanwhile, Panchayat Minister Dilip Ghosh affirmed that such violent incidents were not acceptable and vowed to ensure the police conduct a thorough investigation.

Trinamool Congress MLA Kunal Ghosh condemned the killings, emphasizing that the police must carry out a proper and impartial investigation. Senior Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury also called for a prompt and unbiased probe, demanding that the guilty face 'exemplary punishment'.
