Centcom chief visits US carrier enforcing Iran blockade amid reports of severe strain on crew

Admiral Bradley Cooper, head of the US Central Command, recently inspected the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier in the Arabian Sea. The ship is tasked with enforcing the US blockade of Iran, a mission that has proven to be exceptionally demanding on the crew. Cooper's visit coincided with reports of significant strain on the crew, including mental health issues and supply shortages following an unusually prolonged deployment of over 250 days without a port call.

One sailor reportedly went overboard earlier this month, but was rescued within an hour. More concerning, other sources have detailed a crew member being prevented from jumping overboard due to heightened exhaustion and dwindling morale. The Lincoln is scheduled to be replaced by the USS George Washington, with US lawmakers expressing concerns over the health and well-being of the sailors.

Cooper also conducted visits to Israel, Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates to engage with political and military leaders. Iran and the US have been locked in a power struggle over the Strait of Hormuz, with both sides attacking vessels from rival nations and the US targeting those linked to Iran. Despite the intense strain on the Lincoln's crew, US officials have stated the blockade could potentially be maintained indefinitely, given the ongoing conflict over the strategic waterway.
