Ben Rice hits tiebreaking homer in 10th as Yankees beat Blue Jays 4-3 to avoid three-game sweep

Ben Rice delivered a crucial tiebreaking home run in the tenth inning as the New York Yankees triumphed over the Toronto Blue Jays with a score of 4-3 on Sunday, effectively halting a potential three-game sweep. Brandon Valenzuela came up and ran for Kirk, and with a wild pitch, both runners advanced. Ernie Clement tied the score with a sacrifice fly, and Bednar sealed the game by retiring Kazuma Okamoto on a ground ball. Bednar's blown save was his third of the season.

Ryan Weathers, the Yankees' left-hander, pitched a solid game, allowing only one run and six hits in 7 1/3 innings. He retired the first 10 batters in order, walked one, and struck out four. Toronto's Dylan Cease pitched six innings, allowing two runs and three hits. Cease managed to strike out 10 batters, reaching double digits for the ninth time in his 23 starts, boosting his AL-leading total to 201.

Jacob Misiorowski of Milwaukee leads the majors with 210 strikeouts this season. Cease has struck out 200 or more batters in each of the past six seasons.
