Bekas polis didenda RM4,500 ugut bunuh isteri

A former police officer has been fined RM4,500 or nine months in jail for allegedly luring his wife to her death, according to the Magistrate's Court in Tumpat. Sirrul Akmal Rasali, 43, confessed to the crime during a hearing in front of Magistrate Wan Ashrul Afham Mohamad Azmi. He was accused of verbally abusing his 42-year-old wife until she feared for her life, which occurred around 9 a.m. on August 8th in Kampung Semat Jal, Wakaf Bharu, Tumpat.

The accused was charged under Section 506 of the Dangerous Drugs Act, which carries a maximum sentence of seven years in prison or a fine, or both, if found guilty. The facts of the case revealed that the defendant assaulted his wife in the kitchen, threatening to kill her in front of their children. Concerned for their safety, she called the IPD Tumpat emergency line before being arrested.

Investigations found that the defendant was dissatisfied with his mother-in-law constantly interfering with their household affairs. The prosecutor, Megat Asyraf Megat Ishak, requested a maximum sentence, but the defendant's lawyer, Afiqah Amran from the National Guaman Aid Foundation, argued for a lighter sentence due to his young son's remorse for his actions and his job as a laborer earning RM50 per day.

The defendant also has two school-aged children and has received psychiatric treatment at Hospital Raja Perempuan Zainab II in Kota Bharu. The court imposed the RM4,500 fine or nine months in prison if the defendant fails to pay the fine.
