Bangladesh says PM will not visit India until ex-premier Hasina extradited

Dhaka, Bangladesh - Diplomatic exchanges between Bangladesh and India have been ongoing for weeks concerning a potential bilateral visit by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to India, according to Bangladesh Foreign Ministry spokesperson Shahidul Karim. The proposed visit, Rahman's first since taking office in February, is currently pending due to recent diplomatic tensions following former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's open press interaction in New Delhi on August 5.

Hasina, convicted by the International Crimes Tribunal for crimes against humanity, was part of a virtual event organized by the Foreign Correspondents' Club of South Asia, which sparked controversy. Bangladesh has urged India to adhere to their bilateral extradition treaty, demanding the extradition of individuals involved in the murder of Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi.

Despite these issues, both nations have reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining friendly relations based on sovereign equality, national dignity, non-interference in internal affairs, and mutual benefit.
