Bangladesh inflict major Australia upset, record first Test win Down Under in Darwin

In their first Test appearance Down Under in 23 years, Bangladesh delivered a major upset by defeating Australia by nine wickets at the Marrara Cricket Ground in Darwin. The team, led by captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto, had recently suffered a humiliating loss by an innings to the Cricket Australia XI, just a week prior. This turnaround occurred after Tanzid Hasan became the first Bangladeshi batter to score a Test century in Australia with an impressive 101 runs, while Hasan Mahmud took a career-best six wickets for 55 runs.

The match took a turn as Australia captain Pat Cummins elected to field, with Australia's Cameron Green contributing a century, which initially put Australia ahead. However, Mehidy Hasan Miraz's five-wicket haul and Bangladesh's strong batting performance, including a crucial knock from Mominul Haque, ensured a 228-run innings lead.

Despite Tanzid Hasan's early departure, the team held on to secure a record-breaking victory, ending Australia's nine-match winning streak in Tests. This win reduced Australia's points percentage from 87.55 to 77.77, still keeping them ahead of defending champions South Africa and New Zealand.
