Anambra CP introduces checkpoint monitoring to curb police extortion

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has implemented a new system to monitor police checkpoints, patrols, and other operations across the state. This initiative was revealed in a press conference, following feedback received at recent security stakeholder meetings with representatives from the three senatorial districts of Anambra.

The new monitoring system, overseen by the Command's Operational Control Rooms, aims to enhance policing effectiveness, accountability, and professionalism, while eliminating extortion and abuse of public trust by police personnel. Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Team Commanders will be held accountable for the actions of their officers at strategic locations.

Reports of misconduct, extortion, or unprofessional behavior will be promptly received, monitored, and escalated for appropriate action. CP Nnanna Ama emphasized that the command remains committed to providing security, but no officer will be allowed to exploit public trust for personal gain. Violations will result in disciplinary measures as per the law and regulations.

The command encourages the public to report any incidents of extortion, harassment, or unprofessional conduct through designated communication channels, including the Operational Control Room, Police Public Relations Officer, and the Commissioner of Police's personal WhatsApp number. The Anambra State Police Command is dedicated to professional, people-oriented, and accountable policing, assuring the public that credible complaints will receive immediate attention and appropriate action.
