Anambra CP introduces checkpoint monitoring to curb police extortion

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has implemented a monitoring system to oversee police checkpoints and patrol teams across the state. This initiative was announced in a press statement by the command's spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, following feedback received during recent security stakeholder meetings held in the three senatorial districts.

The primary goal of the new strategy is to enhance effective policing, accountability, and professionalism while eliminating police extortion, harassment, and abuse against the public. The Operational Control Rooms will closely monitor patrol formations and checkpoints, with designated commanders accountable for the actions of personnel at strategic locations.

Any reports or complaints regarding misconduct, extortion, or unprofessional conduct will be promptly received and escalated for appropriate action. CP Nnanna Ama emphasized that no police officer should be permitted to abuse their responsibilities to exploit members of the public, warning that offenders would face disciplinary measures in line with the law.

The command encourages residents to report such incidents through established communication channels, including the Operational Control Room, Police Public Relations Officer, or the Commissioner's WhatsApp number. The Anambra Police Command remains committed to professional, people-oriented, and accountable policing, promising prompt attention to credible complaints.
