Amirudin urges PKR to keep reform agenda on track

Amirudin Shari, PKR vice-president, urged the party to maintain its reform agenda as it enters the final phase of a long-standing struggle, according to today's report. He emphasized that PKR must shift from merely resisting the status quo to actively shaping the nation's direction by prioritizing reform, democracy, human rights, and justice.

Amirudin highlighted that after nearly three decades of reform efforts since 1998, the country now stands at a critical juncture in determining the realization of the changes championed during that period. Among the ongoing reforms, he mentioned the pursuit of abolishing the Universities and University Colleges Act 1971 (AUKU) and other initiatives aimed at advancing the party's broader reform agenda.

However, Amirudin stressed that PKR's journey involves more than just institutional changes; it also entails preserving the party's multiracial identity and ability to unite Malaysians from diverse backgrounds. He cautioned against allowing ethnic interests to overshadow broader national concerns, warning that such a course could exacerbate divisions within the country.

Amirudin stressed the importance of promoting a politics of unity rather than one that reinforces boundaries between Malays, Chinese, and Indians, to ensure that the reform agenda remains relevant and serves as a solid foundation for the nation's development.
