This marks the second consecutive win for the Cardinals in Chicago. Burleson has hit two home runs in back-to-back games, tying his career high at 21.

Walker's 24th home run, his second in 30 games, capped the Cardinals' six-run fourth inning. Walker has doubled twice in the game. Burleson and Walker contributed to a total of three hits and four RBIs for the Cardinals. The Cubs' third baseman, Dansby Swanson, left the game after hurting himself on a swing and miss in the third inning, with the team stating he had discomfort in his left side.

Cubs starter Edward Cabrera struggled, allowing seven runs on six hits in 3 2/3 innings, walks of three, and struck out seven.
