250 Melaka PKR members rally outside party congress, demand swift TH probe

Around 250 members of the Malaysian opposition party, Parti Kesopanan Rakyat (PKR), demonstrated outside the Melaka International Trade Centre on Saturday. They marched in black attire, carrying banners and chanting for a swift investigation into Tabung Haji, the Malaysian pension fund. One unnamed participant told FMT that the protesters were PKR members from Melaka and claimed they met Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who had promised to conduct a thorough investigation.

Another participant, Ashiq, emphasized the significance of the issue to Malays and Muslims, stating that the money belongs to their parents and future generations. He called for action to be taken, citing the declassified findings of the royal commission of inquiry into Tabung Haji, which recommended a major overhaul and stricter oversight.

These findings led to investigations by multiple agencies, including the police, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, and Inland Revenue Board, resulting in several high-profile arrests.
