‘Zootopia 3’ In the Works at Disney

Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde will be reuniting in theaters soon as Disney is developing "Zootopia 3" at Walt Disney Animation Studios. The announcement was made at Disney's biennial D23 Expo in Anaheim. The fast-tracked project means fans are unlikely to have to wait long for the sequel. "Zootopia 2" became the highest grossing American animated film ever before inflation adjustment with $1.85 billion worldwide.

Only "Ne Zha 2" ranks higher among all animated films. The sequel's success in China, surpassing "Avengers: Endgame" as the top grossing Hollywood production there, contributed to Disney's decision to move quickly on a third installment. The "Zootopia" section of Shanghai Disneyland remains one of the most popular areas of the theme park.

In the post-credit scene of "Zootopia 2," a feather landed next to a repaired carrot-shaped voice recorder pen, hinting at the addition of birds to the animal residents of Zootopia in the upcoming third film. Both "Zootopia" films and the animated short anthology "Zootopia+" are available to stream on Disney+.
