Yankees’ Aaron Judge begins baseball activities as return draws closer

The New York Yankees' star outfielder Aaron Judge is gradually working towards a return to the team, with the club remaining cautious about setting a specific timeline. On Friday, Judge engaged in catch and running activities in New York as he recovers from a right rib fracture that has kept him sidelined since May 31. Yankees manager Aaron Boone noted that the workout session marked a crucial phase in Judge's progression back to baseball activities.

"Just part of the ramp-up to baseball activity," Boone stated before Saturday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays. "Hopefully he’ll continue to progress through this week. We’ll see what else gets introduced."

A three-time American League MVP and eight-time All-Star, Judge was cleared to commence light workout activity on August 5. He expressed his intention to return this season, offering some hope for the Yankees, who rely heavily on his offensive prowess as the season progresses. Recent buzz surrounding Judge's potential return intensified following his Friday workout, with Boone confirming that he spoke with the slugger after the session and received positive feedback after Judge threw for the first time in his rehabilitation.

Despite the optimism, the Yankees haven't established a return date, emphasizing that they are still in the early stages of Judge's baseball activity. Before the injury, Judge had a strong performance, batting .248 with 17 home runs, 38 RBIs, and a .907 OPS. However, his production dropped significantly in the preceding 18 games prior to his injury, with Judge scoring only one home run.

Despite these challenges, Judge's return would significantly bolster the Yankees' lineup, and for now, the team is focusing on progressively increasing his workload while closely monitoring his rib's recovery.
