WNBA coach defends Indiana Fever's Stephanie White amid league discourse: 'That is wrong'

Indiana Fever head coach Nate Tibbetts empathized with the challenges Stephanie White faced during the past week, despite Tibbetts not fully understanding the specific issues. Tibbetts lamented the frequent controversies facing the WNBA, many of which involved the Fever. White had been criticized by Indiana's lieutenant governor after making remarks about Chicago Sky's DiJonai Carrington during a postgame interview.

White defended her players passionately in a public statement before being booed upon her introduction at the next game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Fever players rallied behind White, who received a standing ovation before the team's game against the New York Liberty on Friday. Tibbetts expressed sympathy for the difficulties coaches face on a night-to-night basis, stating that White's situation was unjust and unfair.

He added that no other coach in professional sports has to endure similar scrutiny. Tibbetts criticized the league for the unwanted attention it receives and questioned who could help alleviate the division created by external sources.
