Will it rain in the UAE this weekend? Here’s what the forecast says

The UAE could experience light rain this weekend, with the most likely time being on Sunday in northern and eastern regions, according to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM). Saturday is expected to stay mostly dry, while conditions will be fair to partly cloudy, turning cloudy at times in northern and eastern areas. Temperatures will remain high, with inland areas reaching 49°C and coastal areas between 40°C and 45°C.

Humidity may increase on Saturday night and Sunday morning, leading to potential fog or mist in coastal areas.

Northern and eastern parts of the UAE might see partly cloudy to cloudy skies on Sunday, possibly with light rainfall. However, the NCM does not indicate widespread rain across the country, suggesting that any showers would likely be localized. Winds on Sunday are forecast to be light to moderate, initially from the southeast and then shifting to the northwest at speeds up to 30km/h.

Rain chances increase from Monday, with convective clouds potentially forming over eastern areas in the afternoon and bringing rainfall. Winds could strengthen to 40km/h, possibly causing blowing dust. From Tuesday to Wednesday, the areas where clouds could develop expand to include eastern and southern parts of the UAE, with rainfall again possible during afternoons. The unsettled period, including convective clouds, rain, and winds up to 40km/h, is expected to continue through Monday through Wednesday.

While August remains hot and humid in the UAE, it can also experience convective cloud formation and afternoon rainfall, particularly in eastern and southern areas. The country is in the final phase of its peak summer season, known as Al Qayz, which began on August 11. The rising of the Al Kulaybin star on August 11 marks the start of Marakhiyat Al Qalaid, the closing period of Al Qayz, lasting until September 3.

Astronomical autumn begins on September 23. Although intense heat may remain near 50°C in the interior, the traditional closing period of Al Qayz signals the beginning of a gradual seasonal transition.
