Videos Show Moment Building Collapses As Deadly Earthquake Hits Indonesia

A magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck Indonesia early on the eastern island of Flores, causing buildings to collapse and leaving multiple people dead and injured. The quake had a depth of 15km and its epicenter was 30km from Nagekeo, East Nusa Tenggara. The area is located east of Bali, a popular tourist destination. Indonesia’s search and rescue agency reported two deaths, with 20 people confirmed dead by local rescuers and numerous others injured.

Authorities warned residents to stay away from damaged buildings and coastal regions. A tsunami warning was issued but lifted a few hours later, with waves less than three feet recorded in some areas. Videos shared on social media captured the moment two buildings began to collapse. TikTok user Joshua Pichardo Mejia posted footage of one building tilting to the side, with people screaming and running away.

Dreamer Nomad filmed herself waking up to the earthquake's noise rattling her bedroom. The Indonesian national disaster management agency, BNPB, is prioritizing public safety and preventing aftershocks and related hazards. They urged residents to avoid entering damaged buildings and are conducting a rapid assessment to determine casualties and impact.

Media personality Mario Nawfal shared a video on X showing the ocean receding rapidly after the shaking stopped. The agency is still gathering data on casualties and the extent of the damage, urging caution as aftershocks may continue.
