Vande Bharat Sleeper: 24-car trainset nears production, says ICF GM

ICF General Manager Manish Agarwal announced that the production of the 24-car Vande Bharat Sleeper trainset is set to commence at the Chennai-based Integral Coach Factory (ICF). The factory will manufacture 50 of these trainsets. Currently, only one Vande Bharat Sleeper train is operational, running between Howrah and Kamakhya.

This 16-coach semi-high-speed train features 11 Third AC, four Second AC, and one First AC coach. Agarwal confirmed the development during the 80th Independence Day celebrations at the M Arun Sports Complex (ICF Stadium) on Saturday. He revealed that production drawings for the 24-car Vande Bharat Sleeper trainset, covering the coach structure, coach-to-coach interfaces, and underframe equipment, are already ready.

The production of the 24-car Vande Bharat Sleeper trainset will begin soon, according to Agarwal. Additionally, ICF has developed next-generation Amrit Bharat trains with AC, general, and sleeper class coaches, and Freight EMU trainsets for freight transportation. The company has also upgraded the interiors of Kolkata Metro coaches and introduced non-AC EMU coaches with automatic sliding doors for enhanced passenger safety.
