UNIZIK probes viral sexual misconduct allegation against lecturer

Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka, Anambra State is investigating an allegation of sexual misconduct against an unidentified lecturer in the Department of Chinese Studies, Faculty of Arts. The claim came to light after a video surfaced online on Saturday showing students physically assaulting and rough-handling the lecturer on campus after he was accused of molesting a female student.

The viral videos have sparked widespread criticism and calls for a thorough investigation. In response, the university's management has strongly condemned the use of violence and self-help measures, emphasizing that alleged misconduct should be addressed through established institutional procedures. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ugochukwu Anyaehie, has reiterated the university's zero-tolerance policy towards sexual misconduct, harassment, and inappropriate behavior.

The management has directed an immediate, comprehensive, and impartial investigation into the incident, with the aim of establishing the facts and circumstances surrounding the situation.
