On Saturday morning, a magnitude 5 earthquake with its epicenter in Alhendín, Granada, shook much of Andalusia, causing significant disturbance in cities such as Málaga, Jaén, and Córdoba. The tremor was also felt in Murcia, Castilla-La Mancha, Madrid, and Extremadura, according to the Instituto Geográfico Nacional (IGN). Over 200 municipalities across five autonomous communities, primarily in Granada, Jaén, Málaga, Córdoba, Almería, and Sevilla, reported feeling the earthquake, with varying intensities.

Videos circulating on social media depict some collapsed debris in Granada, with citizens sharing their experiences of awakening during the seismic event, although no personal injuries have been reported. Granada's regional president, Juanma Moreno, expressed concern over the night's disturbance and inquired about any material damage, urging calm amidst potential fallen bricks or facades.

The President of the Presidency, Antonio Sanz, activated the Andalusian Seismic Risk Emergency Plan, moving to operational phase 1, following the 1:04 a.m. earthquake in Alhendín. The 112 emergency number received over 200 calls, with the majority from Granada but also reports from other regions except Huelva and Córdoba. Some callers mentioned experiencing cracks, falling objects like awnings, tiles, and walls, as well as damaged buildings.
