UAE-India: A generational partnership for a shared future

On India's 80th Independence Day, the UAE extended its warmest wishes to the Indian community living there. The relationship between India and the UAE has blossomed into a dynamic strategic partnership, a testament to their enduring friendship. India is now the world's largest democracy and a booming engine of global economic growth. Its growth is fueled by strong economic fundamentals, major infrastructure development, and a focus on digital transformation and clean energy.

The UAE has been a steadfast ally, providing unwavering support to India's community and their well-being. This bond has been strengthened by successive leaderships, with high-level visits exchanged between the two countries. President Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan of the UAE visited India five times in the last decade, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the UAE in May 2026.

The current leadership is building on this foundation, with Crown Prince Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Crown Prince Khaled Bin Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan leading the charge.

Economic ties have reached new heights, with bilateral trade reaching $100 billion in FY 2025-26. Both countries aim to double this to $200 billion by 2032. To facilitate this growth, they are upgrading their infrastructure, with the Virtual Trade Corridor and initiatives like Bharat Mart and Bharat-Africa Setu playing key roles. The UAE has also pledged $5 billion in investments into India, with strategic investments in various banks and funds.

Beyond trade, the partnership extends into strategic sectors like energy, defense, and maritime security. The UAE is set to play a significant role in India's strategic petroleum reserves and gas supplies. In defense, a comprehensive framework for industrial collaboration has been established. Moreover, a tripartite agreement is in place to develop a maritime skill development center and ship repair cluster in Gujarat, further cementing their strategic alliance.
